Aliso Viejo Personal Injury Lawyer

Aliso Viejo, Spanish for “old alder,” sits on the east slope of the San Joaquin Hills. It was an unincorporated community from 1979 until July 1, 2001, when it became Orange County’s 34th city after 93.3% of voters approved cityhood. It’s the only Orange County city incorporated since 2000. The 2020 Census counted 52,176 residents. Aliso Viejo borders Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel and Laguna Woods.

Our Lake Forest office is about 4 miles away. If you were hurt here, an Aliso Viejo personal injury lawyer can get the report, collect toll-road and trail evidence before it’s lost, and handle the insurers.

The 73 Toll Road Through Town

State Route 73, the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road, runs through Aliso Viejo. Its ramps here include:

  • Moulton Parkway (southbound exit, northbound entrance)
  • La Paz Road and Aliso Creek Road (tolled northbound exits and southbound entrances)
  • Pacific Park Drive / Glenwood Drive (southbound exit, northbound entrance)
  • SR-133 / El Toro Road at the Laguna Beach line (tolled northbound exit and southbound entrance)

Many of these ramps work in one direction only, so a driver who realizes too late that there’s no exit or entrance may brake or change lanes suddenly. Crashes on the 73 are handled by the CHP Capistrano Area office, which patrols SR-73 along with I-5 and the 241. If you have a toll account or a dashcam, save the trip record and the video. They can show the time and your lane.

Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park

Aliso Viejo is one of several cities next to Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, an OC Parks wilderness of about 4,500 acres. It has more than 30 miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. The main entrance and parking are at 28373 Alicia Parkway in Laguna Niguel, and trails can close for three days or more after rain.

A fall you take on your own usually isn’t a claim. But a collision with a careless rider, or an unsafe condition in a parking lot, might be. Injuries on public land can involve special rules and a six-month claim deadline, so ask early. See our bicycle accident lawyer page.

Court and Deadlines

Orange County Superior Court handles civil injury cases at the Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana. You generally have two years to file an injury lawsuit. If a public agency is involved, such as a city, the county or a toll road agency, a written claim is usually required within six months. See the statute of limitations for car accidents in California.

A Minor Crash Can Still Hurt

A slow-speed tap at the bottom of a toll road ramp can still mean whiplash or a concussion. No case is too small to call.
