Hemet Personal Injury Lawyer

Hemet voted itself into existence in January 1910: of 177 residents, 130 voted to incorporate and 33 voted no. The town grew on water from Lake Hemet and on farming in the San Jacinto Valley. From the 1960s on, mobile home parks and retirement communities brought many older residents. In the 2020 Census Hemet had 89,833 people, a median age of 40.3, and 22.8% of residents were 65 or older. About 29% speak Spanish at home, according to American Community Survey estimates.

Hemet is also home to the Ramona Pageant, California’s official outdoor play, staged since 1923 at the Ramona Bowl. A Hemet personal injury lawyer can help you get the police report, work with your doctors and deal with the insurance companies. Our Riverside office is about 28 miles away. Florida Avenue Is a State Highway

Hemet’s main east-west street, Florida Avenue, carries State Route 74 for most of its length, and State Route 79 shares it for a few miles. That puts state highway traffic on the same street as downtown Hemet’s shops and RTA bus stops. Other main streets include Sanderson Avenue, San Jacinto Street, Stetson Avenue and State Street.

For a city with many older residents, that mix matters. An older pedestrian hit at a crosswalk can face a much longer recovery than a younger person. If you or a parent was hit while walking, see our pedestrian accident lawyer page.

What’s planned. RCTC, the county and the cities of Hemet and San Jacinto have long planned a new 12-mile, four-lane San Jacinto Valley Expressway (formerly the SR-79 Realignment Project) from south of Domenigoni Parkway north to Gilman Springs Road. RCTC lists it as long-term and dependent on funding, so for now Florida Avenue still carries the highway traffic.

Hemet Has Its Own Police Department

Unlike most nearby cities, Hemet has its own police force.

  • Hemet Police Department: 450 E. Latham Avenue, Hemet, CA 92543. Non-emergency (951) 765-2400. Call 911 in an emergency.
  • Records Bureau: (951) 765-2410, open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call before visiting to confirm your report is ready.

Getting a Hemet PD crash report. Drivers, vehicle owners, injured people, insurers and attorneys with a representation letter can get a copy. You can request it through the department’s free smartphone app (reports are mailed), at the Records counter with a government photo ID, or online through LexisNexis eCrash. The 2025/2026 fee schedule lists $32 for a traffic collision report with narrative and $15 without. Cards carry a 3.5% third-party fee.

Outside city limits. Crashes on state highways outside the city and in unincorporated areas such as East Hemet and Valle Vista are usually handled by the CHP San Gorgonio Pass Area office, 195 Highland Springs Avenue, Beaumont, (951) 846-5300. Its territory includes Hemet, San Jacinto and Winchester. CHP reports cost $10 for 1 to 25 pages.

Emergency Care

  • Hemet Global Medical Center, 1117 E. Devonshire Avenue, Hemet, has a 24-hour emergency department.
  • RUHS Medical Center, 26520 Cactus Avenue, Moreno Valley, is a Level I trauma center for the most serious injuries.

  • Limited civil cases to the Menifee Justice Center, 27401 Menifee Center Drive, Menifee.
