Indio Personal Injury Lawyer
Indio grew up around the railroad. Southern Pacific trains reached the site on May 29, 1876, and it became a halfway stop between Los Angeles and Yuma where engines refilled with water. Once called the “Hub of the Valley,” Indio now calls itself the “City of Festivals.” With 89,137 residents in the 2020 Census, it’s the most populous city in the Coachella Valley. About 52% of residents speak Spanish at home, according to American Community Survey estimates.
Tafreshi Law Group serves injured people in Indio and throughout the Coachella Valley from our Riverside office. Call or text at any hour, in English or Spanish. Lea esta página en español.
Festival Season Changes the Streets
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Festival are both held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. In 2026, Coachella ran April 10–12 and 17–19, and Stagecoach ran April 24–26. The city’s traffic plan that year included:
- Avenue 50 closed between Monroe Street and Madison Street from late March until May 4, with Highway 111, Dr. Carreon Boulevard, Avenue 48 and Avenue 52 as alternate routes.
- Friday-through-Monday closures on parts of Avenue 49, Avenue 50, Hjorth Street and Madison Street.
- No pedestrian access on Monroe Street between Avenue 49 and Avenue 52.
- More than 40,000 campers expected to leave on each Monday after a festival weekend.
Detours, shuttles, rideshare pickups and crowds of people walking at night all raise the risk of a crash. If you were hurt in an Uber or Lyft, see our rideshare accident lawyer page. If you were hit while walking, see our pedestrian accident lawyer page.
Indio’s festival calendar doesn’t stop in April. The Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival is held each February at the fairgrounds on Highway 111, and the Indio International Tamale Festival fills the streets of Old Town each December.
I-10, Highway 111 and Farm Country
Interstate 10 is Indio’s main highway and runs along the north side of the city. Highway 111 runs through town. Citrus groves and vegetable fields surround the city limits, and date growers such as Shields Date Garden sit on Highway 111, so farm trucks and worker vans are part of daily traffic. Our Coachella page explains the federal rules for farmworker transportation.
Who Takes the Report
Indio has its own police department, and it also contracts with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office for some services. During the Coachella festival, Indio Police handle a heavy load of 911 and non-emergency calls through their six-position dispatch center.
- Indio Police Department Records Bureau: 46-800 Jackson Street, Indio, CA 92201. Phone (760) 391-4057, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Call Records to see whether your traffic collision report is ready. You can also buy a copy online through LexisNexis, which runs its own support line at (866) 215-2771. Ask Records about the current copy fee.
On I-10 and Highway 111 outside city streets, the CHP Indio Area office usually takes the report. It’s in Indio at 79650 Varner Road, (760) 772-5300, and it patrols I-10 and State Routes 62, 74, 86, 111 and 177. CHP reports cost $10 for 1 to 25 pages.
Hospitals
- JFK Memorial Hospital, 47111 Monroe Street, Indio, has served the valley since 1966 and offers 24/7 emergency care as a Level IV trauma center. A group of physicians including Dr. Reynaldo Carreon founded it; the cross street is named for him.
- Desert Regional Medical Center, 1150 N. Indian Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, is the Coachella Valley’s only Level I trauma center.
Court and Deadlines
Indio is home to the Larson Justice Center, 46-200 Oasis Street, which hears criminal, traffic, family law and juvenile matters. A criminal or traffic case against the driver who hit you may be heard there. Your injury lawsuit, though, would be filed at the Palm Springs Courthouse, 3255 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, under the Riverside Superior Court’s civil filing order for Indio ZIPs 92201, 92202 and 92203 (effective August 1, 2026).
Most injury lawsuits must be filed within two years. A claim against the city, the county, Caltrans or another public agency generally needs a written claim within six months. See the statute of limitations for car accidents in California.
Cases We Handle for Indio Clients
- Festival-traffic crashes on detours, at shuttle stops and at rideshare zones.
- DUI crashes. See our drunk driver page.
- Freeway crashes on I-10 and crashes on Highway 111.
- Farm vehicle and worker van crashes.
Small Crashes Still Count
A slow bump in festival gridlock on Jefferson Street can still leave you with a neck injury that lasts. No case is too small to call.

Indio Injury FAQs
Is my injury case heard at the courthouse on Oasis Street?
Usually not. The Larson Justice Center hears criminal, traffic, family and juvenile matters. Civil injury cases from Indio are filed at the Palm Springs Courthouse.
Who has my report: Indio Police or the CHP?
On city streets, usually Indio Police. On I-10 and on state highways outside city streets, usually the CHP Indio Area office.
I was hurt in festival traffic. Is that different from any other crash?
The rules of fault are the same, but evidence disappears fast once the closures come down. Take photos of the detour signs, cones and crossing area, and get witness names.
Do you have an office in Indio?
No. Our offices are in Riverside, Lake Forest and Fountain Valley, and we serve clients throughout the Coachella Valley by phone and text.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. It costs nothing to talk to us.
