Midway City Personal Injury Lawyer

Midway City is easy to miss on a map. It’s an unincorporated pocket of county land with 8,825 residents (2020 Census), mostly surrounded by Westminster, with Huntington Beach along its southwest side. The name comes from its location, roughly midway between Seal Beach and Santa Ana. Many homes date from the 1950s, and the community includes two mobile home parks and many senior residents.

Because Midway City isn’t a city, a few things work differently after a crash. If you were hurt here, a Midway City personal injury lawyer can help you figure out who wrote the report, whose insurance applies and which deadlines matter. Our Fountain Valley office at 18837 Brookhurst Street is about 4 miles away in a straight line.

Where Crashes Happen In and Around Midway City

Midway City covers only about 0.6 square miles of land, but a lot of traffic passes through it. Beach Boulevard, which is State Route 39, runs north and south between the I-405 at the Huntington Beach–Westminster line and the SR-22 in Westminster. Bolsa Avenue, McFadden Avenue and Hazard Avenue (the community’s northern edge) cross it, and Newland Street and the presidential-name streets such as Jackson, Monroe, Madison, Washington and Adams carry neighborhood traffic.

Orange County Public Works publishes collision data for county roads. We reviewed it for 2021 through 2025, counting crashes reported within 100 feet of each intersection:

  • Beach Blvd at McFadden Ave: 49 collisions, 28 people injured.
  • Beach Blvd at Bolsa Ave: 28 collisions, 15 people injured.
  • Newland St at Bolsa Ave: 22 collisions, 15 people injured. Running a red light was the most frequently cited cause (7 crashes).
  • Newland St at Hazard Ave: 21 collisions, 22 people injured. Broadside (T-bone) crashes were the most common type (11), and failing to yield on a left turn was the most frequently cited cause (6).
  • Bolsa Ave at Monroe St: 14 collisions, 10 people injured.

These figures include only crashes that were reported and mapped, so the true numbers may be higher. For a closer look at the two Beach Boulevard intersections, see our guide to crashes on Beach Blvd at Bolsa and McFadden.

Who Takes the Crash Report in Midway City

The California Highway Patrol’s Westminster Area office is responsible for Midway City’s unincorporated roadways, along with nearby freeways including the I-405, I-605 and SR-22.

  • CHP Westminster Area: 13200 Goldenwest Street, Westminster, CA 92683. Phone (714) 622-3600. Open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Midway City’s borders are irregular. Over the years Westminster has annexed land at its edges, including along Beach Boulevard, and the community is now split into several separate “islands.” A crash a few hundred feet away may be inside Westminster and handled by the Westminster Police Department instead. The officer’s agency name on the paperwork you received tells you which.

Getting a CHP report. A driver, passenger, pedestrian, bicyclist, vehicle owner, parent of a minor or legal representative can request a CHP crash report online through the CHP Crash Portal, or by submitting form CHP 190 in person or by mail. CHP charges $10 for a report of 1 to 25 pages. You can ask at any CHP office, not only the one that wrote the report.

Nearby Emergency Rooms

  • UCI Health — Fountain Valley (formerly Fountain Valley Regional Hospital), 17100 Euclid St., Fountain Valley. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day.
  • MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center, 18111 Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley, which has an emergency department.

In an emergency, call 911. Even if you feel fine, get checked; some injuries show up hours or days later.

Cases We Handle for Midway City Residents

Courts and Deadlines

There’s a courthouse nearby in Westminster, the Stephen K. Tamura West Justice Center at 8141 13th Street, but it isn’t where injury lawsuits go. Orange County Superior Court hears limited and unlimited civil cases at the Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana.

In California, most personal injury lawsuits must be filed within two years of the injury. If a public agency may share the blame, for example because of a dangerous condition on Beach Boulevard (a state highway) or a county road, a written claim usually must be presented within six months. See the statute of limitations for car accidents in California. If you were partly at fault, you may still recover under comparative negligence.

Your Accident Doesn’t Have to Be Major to Matter

A rear-end tap at the light on Bolsa may not seem like much, but whiplash and concussions are real injuries. No case is too small to call, so talk with us before accepting a quick insurance offer.

Midway City Injury FAQs

Midway City isn’t a city. Does that change my injury claim?

Your rights under California law are the same. What changes is who responds and who owns the road. The CHP usually handles crashes on Midway City’s county roads, and Beach Boulevard is a state highway. That matters if a road problem played a part, because claims against public agencies have short deadlines.

How do I know whether CHP or Westminster Police took my report?

Look at the card or form the officer gave you; it names the agency and usually a report number. If you didn’t get one, call the CHP Westminster Area office at (714) 622-3600 with the date, time and location.

I was hit while crossing Beach Boulevard. What should I do first?

Get medical care, then write down the exact crossing, the signal you had and the direction the car was traveling. Ask nearby businesses to save any security video right away, because many security systems record over old footage.

Can I talk with your office in Spanish?

Yes. Our staff speaks Spanish, and Suzy Tafreshi speaks Farsi. You can call (949) 989-2511 or text (949) 776-8964.

How much does a consultation cost?

Nothing. The consultation is free, and we’re available 24/7.
