Woodcrest Personal Injury Lawyer

Woodcrest is an unincorporated hillside community just south of the City of Riverside, with 15,378 residents in the 2020 Census across about 11.4 square miles. Parts of it rise above 2,000 feet. It’s still an equestrian community, with many homes on ranch lots with horses, even as new housing goes in. The City of Riverside lists Woodcrest as an area for possible annexation, but for now it’s county territory, and that changes who responds when something goes wrong.

The name dates to 1926, when the first of five “Woodcrest Acres” subdivisions was recorded at the crest of the hills. One of the old routes from Riverside, once called Woodard Grade, was later realigned as today’s Washington Street. If you were hurt here, a Woodcrest personal injury lawyer can help you get the right report, deal with insurers and meet your deadlines. Our Riverside office on Brockton Avenue is about 7 miles away.

Roads Through Woodcrest

  • Van Buren Boulevard is the main arterial. The county classifies it as an urban arterial highway, and it’s 63 to 88 feet wide through Woodcrest. In December 2025, the county filed plans to resurface about a mile of Van Buren between Capella Street and Washington Street. The project includes curb ramps, bus pads with sidewalks, new signs and striping, and camera detection for the signal at King Avenue.
  • Washington Street follows the realigned route of the old Woodard Grade from Riverside and meets Van Buren near the site of the 1924 Fertile Acres tract.
  • Wood Road, named in 1916 for landowner Susan Wood, is another long-standing local route.

During road work, lane shifts and temporary signs change how traffic moves. If a crash happens in a work zone, photos of the cones, signs and lane markings can matter later.

Who Takes the Report in Woodcrest

Because Woodcrest is unincorporated, two agencies share the work.

  • Traffic collisions: the California Highway Patrol, which handles traffic in Riverside County’s unincorporated areas. The CHP Riverside Area office is at 8118 Lincoln Ave, Riverside, CA 92504, (951) 324-7210.
  • Crimes and other calls: the Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Mathews Station, 9 Latitude Way, Corona, CA 92881, (951) 272-5600. Since it opened on March 1, 2023, it has served Woodcrest and other unincorporated communities around Lake Mathews and Temescal Valley.

So if you were rear-ended on Van Buren, expect the CHP to write the report. If the crash involved a crime, such as a hit-and-run with a known suspect or a DUI arrest, the Sheriff may also be involved.

Getting a CHP report. Involved parties, such as drivers, injured people, vehicle owners, parents of minors and their attorneys, can request a copy online or with form CHP 190. The fee is $10 for 1 to 25 pages.

Horses, Riders and Road Users

Under California law, a person riding a horse on the road generally has the same rights and duties as a driver (Vehicle Code 21050). Drivers approaching a horse and rider must keep control of their vehicle and slow down or stop when needed to avoid frightening the animal (Vehicle Code 21759). If you were thrown, kicked or hit while riding, or if a loose horse caused a crash, liability can involve the driver, the horse’s owner or both. See our slip-and-fall and dog bite injury page for animal-related injuries, and our comparative negligence page for how shared fault works.

The Nearest Trauma Centers

  • Riverside Community Hospital, 4445 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, is a Level I trauma center verified by the American College of Surgeons.
  • RUHS Medical Center, 26520 Cactus Avenue, Moreno Valley, is a Level I trauma center and Level II pediatric trauma center with a 24/7 emergency department.

Which Court Hears a Woodcrest Case

Woodcrest uses ZIP codes 92504 and 92508. Under Riverside Superior Court’s current filing order:

  • Unlimited civil cases (over $35,000) from either ZIP go to the Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street, Riverside.
  • Limited civil cases go to the Corona Courthouse for 92504, and to the Moreno Valley Courthouse, 13800 Heacock Street, for 92508.

Most injury lawsuits must be filed within two years. If a public agency’s road may have played a part, a written claim usually must be presented within six months. See the statute of limitations for car accidents in California.

Your Accident Doesn’t Have to Be Major to Matter

Being bumped while turning into a driveway on Van Buren, or bitten by a neighbor’s dog on a morning walk, can still mean real medical bills. No case is too small to call.

Usually the CHP Riverside Area office, because the CHP handles traffic on unincorporated county roads. Once you cross into the City of Riverside, the Riverside Police Department may take the report instead.
