Norco Personal Injury Lawyer
Norco’s name is short for “North Corona,” after the North Corona Land Company. The town held its grand opening on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1923, and became a city on December 28, 1964. Its motto is “City living in a rural atmosphere,” and since 2006 it has promoted itself as Horsetown U.S.A. In 2003 Norco became a charter city specifically to protect horse trails, lot sizes and animal-keeping rights. The 2020 Census counted 26,316 residents.
A Norco personal injury lawyer can help when a crash or fall happens in a place where cars, horses and people on foot share the same space. Our Riverside office is about 10 miles away.
Where Horses, Walkers and Cars Meet
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office says Norco has about 87 miles of roadways and more than 120 miles of equestrian trails. Norco has few sidewalks. Much of the city has horse trails instead, and riders can tie up at hitching rails near businesses.
That design creates risks you don’t see in most cities:
- A driver passing too fast or too close can startle a horse, and a rider can be thrown.
- Where there’s no sidewalk, people on foot may be on a trail or the road shoulder, with no curb between them and traffic.
- Trail crossings put riders, walkers and drivers in the same lane for a moment.
California law requires drivers to use caution around horses on the road, and riders have many of the same duties as drivers. When a horse is involved in an injury, fault may be shared among a driver, a rider and the horse’s owner. See comparative negligence in California for how shared fault works, and our slip-and-fall and dog bite injury page for other animal-related injuries.
I-15 and Hamner Avenue
Interstate 15 runs through the middle of Norco, linking it with Corona to the south and Ontario to the north. Hamner Avenue crosses the Santa Ana River into Eastvale on the six-lane Mayor Berwin Hanna Bridge, which opened in 2024. Norco’s largest employer, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, along with Norco College and the California Rehabilitation Center, brings daily commuter traffic. Every Labor Day weekend, the Norco Fair and its parade down 6th Street draw crowds.
