Jurupa Valley Personal Injury Lawyer
Jurupa Valley became a city on July 1, 2011, joining together long-standing communities such as Rubidoux, Mira Loma, Glen Avon, Pedley, Sunnyslope, Belltown, Indian Hills and Jurupa. About 105,000 people live here (2020 Census) across roughly 43 square miles, between the city of Riverside, Eastvale, Norco and the San Bernardino County line. The name comes from Rancho Jurupa, an 1838 Mexican land grant.
If you were hurt on a Jurupa Valley street, a Jurupa Valley personal injury lawyer can help you get the right report, talk to insurers for you and keep track of deadlines. Our Riverside office at 4121 Brockton Avenue is about 4 miles away.
What the City’s Own Safety Plan Found
In 2022, the city published a Local Roadway Safety Plan based on five years of collision data (2016 through 2020) from the CHP’s statewide records and the Riverside County Crossroads database. Its key findings:
- 4,826 collisions on city streets, including 52 fatal and 86 serious-injury collisions.
- The most common crash types were rear-end (27.2%), broadside (26.8%), hitting an object (18.1%) and sideswipes (17.0%).
- The most frequent causes were improper turning (29.3%) and unsafe speed (26.7%), followed by right-of-way violations and driving under the influence.
- DUI-involved collisions roughly doubled, from 46 in 2017 to 100 in 2020, and occurred mostly Friday through Sunday.
- Fatal and serious-injury collisions clustered on four corridors: Limonite Avenue, Mission Boulevard, Rubidoux Boulevard and Van Buren Boulevard.
The plan also explains why. Many older streets are narrow, and some were built to wider county standards that, in the city’s words, “promoted faster speed.” It notes that drivers cut through on city streets when freeways back up, then speed to make up time. One recommendation was to close the median opening at Van Buren Boulevard and 56th Street to stop uncontrolled left turns there.
Newer Statewide Numbers
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) compares cities of similar size. In its 2023 rankings, where 1 is the worst, Jurupa Valley ranked:
- 4th of 62 for alcohol-involved crashes (100 people killed or injured)
- 12th of 62 for motorcyclists killed or injured (41) and for nighttime crashes
- 13th of 62 for pedestrians killed or injured (41)
- 14th of 62 for speed-related crashes
- 15th of 62 for total people killed or injured (598)
Walking and Biking Without Sidewalks
The safety plan notes that older parts of Jurupa Valley were built without sidewalks. From 2016 to 2020, 113 collisions involved a pedestrian, and 89% of them caused an injury or death. There were also 78 bicycle collisions, including 3 in which the rider died. The city has added sidewalks near schools such as Rubidoux, Jurupa Valley and Troth, plus a pedestrian beacon at Limonite Avenue and Marlatt Street. If you were hit while walking on one, see our page on pedestrian accident claims in Riverside.
Who Takes the Crash Report in Jurupa Valley
Jurupa Valley doesn’t have its own police department. It contracts with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, which handles general and traffic enforcement on city streets.
- Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station: 7477 Mission Blvd, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509. Phone (951) 955-2600. The same station also serves Eastvale, Norco and Highgrove.
- Sheriff non-emergency dispatch: (951) 776-1099. Call 911 in an emergency.
Crashes on the freeways, such as SR-60 and I-15, are generally handled by the California Highway Patrol.
- CHP Riverside Area: 8118 Lincoln Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. Phone (951) 324-7210. This office patrols I-15, I-215, SR-60, SR-91 and other state routes in western Riverside County.
To get a Sheriff’s report, the Sheriff’s Office says to ask the station that wrote the report. If it has been less than 14 days, call first to confirm the report is ready. Bring a government-issued photo ID, or mail a copy with your request. Fees must be paid before release. Reports go only to “interested parties,” such as the drivers and injured people involved, or their attorney. For a CHP report, use the CHP’s request process. The CHP 190 fee is $10 for 1 to 25 pages.
The Nearest Trauma Center
Riverside Community Hospital, 4445 Magnolia Avenue in downtown Riverside, is an American College of Surgeons–verified Level I trauma center with a 24/7 emergency department. It sits just across the Santa Ana River from Rubidoux.

Courts and Deadlines
Riverside Superior Court decides where a civil case is filed based on the ZIP code. For Jurupa Valley’s ZIP codes (91752 and 92509), the court’s filing order sends:
- Unlimited civil cases (over $35,000) to the Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street, Riverside.
- Limited civil cases to the Corona Courthouse, 505 S. Buena Vista Avenue, Corona.
Most injury lawsuits must be filed within two years. If a public agency may share responsibility, for example for a road defect, a written claim usually must be presented within six months. See the statute of limitations for car accidents in California.
Your Accident Doesn’t Have to Be Major to Matter
A low-speed rear-end on Van Buren or a sideswipe leaving a Mission Boulevard driveway can still cause neck, back or head injuries that show up days later. No case is too small to call.

Jurupa Valley Injury FAQs
Who do I call after a crash on Limonite Avenue or Mission Boulevard?
Call 911 if anyone is hurt. On city streets, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station takes the report. On SR-60 or I-15, the CHP usually does.
I was in Mira Loma or Rubidoux. Is that Jurupa Valley?
Yes. Both are former unincorporated communities that are now part of the city. Your report will usually come from the Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station.
Which courthouse would hear my case?
Under the court’s current filing order, unlimited civil cases from Jurupa Valley ZIP codes go to the Riverside Historic Courthouse, and limited civil cases go to the Corona Courthouse.
I was walking on a street with no sidewalk. Can I still bring a claim?
Possibly. Under California’s comparative negligence rules, your share of fault reduces your recovery but doesn’t automatically bar it. The driver’s speed and attention still matter.
What does it cost to talk to you?
The consultation is free, and we’re available 24/7.
