Perris began as a railroad town. Settlers moved two miles north along the California Southern Railroad in 1885 after a land-title dispute at Pinacate, and the new town was named for the railroad’s chief engineer, Fred T. Perris. Perris was incorporated on May 26, 1911. In the 2020 Census it had 78,700 residents, and the median age was 29.5.
Spanish is the most common home language in Perris. Census estimates for 2023 show about 62% of residents age 5 and older speak Spanish at home. Our team speaks Spanish. Read this page in Spanish: abogado de accidentes en Perris.

I-215, Ramona Expressway and the New Placentia Interchange
Interstate 215 runs through the city, and State Route 74 connects Perris with Lake Elsinore to the west and the San Jacinto Valley to the east.
- Placentia Avenue interchange. RCTC opened new I-215 ramps at Placentia Avenue on December 13, 2022. They give drivers another way on and off the freeway between the Ramona Expressway ramps to the north and the Nuevo Road ramps to the south. The project widened the Placentia bridge between Harvill Avenue and Indian Road and added sidewalks, bike lanes and a barrier-separated equestrian path.
- Ramona Expressway. The interchange is the first piece of the Mid County Parkway, a planned 16-mile corridor between Perris and San Jacinto. The next segment covers 8.6 miles of Ramona Expressway east of Perris, from Warren Road to about a mile east of Rider Street. RCTC describes it as addressing high-priority safety needs on a road “with a history of vehicle collisions.” Check RCTC’s project page for the current construction schedule.
If you were hit near a work zone or a new ramp, photograph the signs, cones and lane striping before they change.
Lake Perris, Skydiving and Weekend Traffic
Perris draws visitors. Lake Perris State Recreation Area, between Perris and Moreno Valley, has a 9-mile paved loop road shared by drivers, runners and cyclists. The privately owned Perris Valley Airport has made the city known for skydiving. The Southern California Railway Museum and the Southern California Fair at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds also bring crowds. On busy weekends, expect more drivers who don’t know the roads, and more people walking and biking.
Who Takes the Report in Perris
Perris contracts with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office for police services.
- Perris Station: 137 N. Perris Blvd, Suite A, Perris, CA 92570. Phone (951) 210-1000. Call 911 in an emergency.
Crashes on city streets such as Perris Boulevard, 4th Street and Ramona Expressway inside city limits usually go to the Sheriff. Crashes on I-215 are handled by the CHP Riverside Area office, 8118 Lincoln Ave, Riverside, CA 92504, (951) 324-7210, which patrols I-215 and SR-74. The CHP also takes traffic reports in nearby unincorporated areas such as Mead Valley.
Sheriff’s reports are requested from the station that wrote them. Call first if it has been less than 14 days, and bring a government photo ID. Reports go only to involved parties and their representatives, and the Sheriff’s online payment form lists $25 for a traffic report plus a small transaction fee. CHP reports cost $10 for 1 to 25 pages, online or with form CHP 190.
